Nigel Armstrong, Santa Cruz Symphony’s new concertmaster, will be performing a recital of Bach, Brahms, Debussy, and Pärt, concluding with the virtuosic “Devils’ Trill” by Tartini. Santa Cruz Symphony’s Music Director Daniel Stewart will join Nigel on the viola for a Mozart Duo. Nigel will be available after the recital for a reception in the lobby.
Nigel Armstrong is a soloist of international renown and prizewinner at several of the world’s most prestigious competitions, including the Tchaikovsky, the Yehudi Menuhin, and the Corpus Christi International Violin Competitions.
As a soloist Armstrong has performed with orchestras such as the Dusseldorf Symphony, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, YOA Orchestra of the Americas, and the Boston Pops. As a chamber musician his concerts have taken him across the US and abroad; highlights have included opportunities to share the stage with the Tokyo String Quartet and pianist Jonathan Biss.
