He created the music for some of American cinema's most significant, groundbreaking films, including Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Hook, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter. Nearly all of Steven Spielberg’s films feature music by Williams, who also composed music for the Summer Olympics, NBC News, and a multitude of TV shows. Billions of people around the world have enjoyed the music he has written.
What makes John Williams’ work so special is his ability to create unforgettable melodies with an emotional charge, reaching listeners on a profound level while stories are unfolding onscreen. The American Film Institute called his Star Wars score the greatest American film score of all time. He has received 24 Grammy Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, five Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, and countless other accolades.
John Williams has long been a passionate advocate for music education at all ages, using his talent and influence to raise funds for educational causes. At our Pops Concert on June 8, we are celebrating more than Williams' critically acclaimed body of work. We’re also honoring his role in supporting musicians, bringing powerful orchestral works to millions of moviegoers, and inspiring generations of viewers with a lifelong love of music.
