Remembering Roy Chambers-Bray: We mourn the loss of our beloved benefactor, volunteer, and friend

Dear Symphony Family,

Roy Chambers-Bray

With great regret, we are letting you know that our beloved benefactor and Santa Cruz Symphony Board member Roy Chambers-Bray passed away at home on May 9, 2024. Roy was also a huge presence on the Symphony League Board, serving as Co-Treasurer. He and his husband Mark Chambers-Bray hosted many Symphony celebrations and fundraisers, and they eagerly attended whatever they didn’t host.

Roy’s illness was short, but we were privileged to have enough time to convey our love and admiration for his joyful presence, his reputation as a true gentleman, and his generous spirit before he passed on.

Mark has one request: “In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Santa Cruz Symphony League. Roy was on the Board of both the League as well as the Symphony Association. The Symphony was one of Roy’s passions, and I know he would have been so honored if you would support a cause that he loved so much. Thank you in advance for your love and support to something that brought him so much joy.”

Roy’s departure has left a huge hole in our community because he added so much of himself to the lives of everyone he knew.

We wish our very best to Mark and to everyone else who is grieving this loss.

In sympathy,

Linda Burroughs
President, Santa Cruz Symphony Association
